Work with the candidate
The Scout Chrome extension adds a Scout drawer to the recruiting pages you already use, so you can save candidates and work with them without leaving the page.
Before you start
- You need Google Chrome and a Scout account that has finished onboarding.
- Log in to Scout in the same Chrome profile. The extension picks up your Scout login, so there is no separate extension password.
- On LinkedIn you must be logged in to your own LinkedIn account.
- ATS pages (Vincere, JobAdder) only work after you connect that ATS in Settings > Integrations. See Integrations.
Steps
INSTALL the extension
- In Scout, click Install Chrome Extension in the sidebar. This opens the Scout page in the Chrome Web Store.
- Click Add to Chrome and confirm.
- Click the puzzle icon in Chrome’s toolbar and click the pin icon next to Scout so it stays visible.
SIGN IN to Scout
- Open app.getscout.ai in Chrome and log in with your email and one-time code.
- Keep that session active. The extension picks it up automatically.
- If the drawer shows Not signed in, click Sign in to Scout. If it shows Setup Required, click Complete Setup to finish onboarding.
USE the drawer on a supported page
The extension runs on these sites:
| Site | What it reads |
|---|---|
LinkedIn profiles (/in/...) | Candidate profiles |
LinkedIn Recruiter (/talent/...) | Candidate profiles and search results |
| Seek | Candidate profiles and jobs |
| Vincere and JobAdder (when connected) | Candidates and jobs |
| GitHub and Kaggle | Candidate profiles |
| MyCareersFuture, Workday, JobStreet, JobsDB, eFinancialCareers | Job postings |
- Open a profile or search page on one of these sites.
- Scout opens its drawer on the right of the page. If it is closed, click the floating Scout button (Open Scout). Drag the button to move it, and use Minimize Scout drawer to hide the drawer again.
- Wait for the profile to load. Scout saves the profile to your database and then shows it in the drawer.
What the drawer can show:
- Candidate profile - tabs for Profile, Placements, Notes, Projects, Jobs, Inbox and Sequences.
- Profile Not Found - no Scout profile exists yet for the page you are on.
- Available in Sourcing - the profile is in your sourcing pool but not fully synced yet. Open Scout to see the full profile.
- Search results - on a search page, a results list with a keyword box, a Show Only filter and a Post job on Scout button. Click a candidate to open their profile.
- Dashboard - a compact dashboard when no candidate is active.
- LinkedIn contact - for Business Development contacts: contact details, Save contact and Sequences.
- Integration Not Connected or Already Integrated - on Vincere or JobAdder pages when no ATS, or the other ATS, is connected.
ADD a candidate to a project
- In the drawer, open the Projects tab.
- Click Add to Project and choose the project. Use the Jobs tab and Add to Job for jobs.
- The project appears in the list on the tab.
VIEW or reveal contact details
- Check the emails and phone numbers shown in the drawer header.
- If either is missing, click Enrich Profile. See Profile Enrichment for credits and providers.
SAVE a Business Development contact
- Open the person’s LinkedIn profile. When Scout shows the LinkedIn contact view in the drawer, the person is a Business Development contact.
- In the drawer, click Save contact to store them, then add them to a sequence from the Sequences tab.
WHAT happens when you go offline
If your internet connection drops, Scout pauses the drawer and tells you in two places:
- A banner at the top of the drawer reads “No internet connection. Scout will resume automatically.”
- A warning toast reads “You’re offline” with “Scout will resume automatically when you reconnect.” It stays until you are back online.
You do not need to do anything. While offline, Scout keeps checking for a connection. When it reaches Scout again, the banner disappears and a “Back online” toast says “Scout is resuming.” and the drawer continues.
HOW saves run in the background
When you open a LinkedIn profile, Scout saves it in the background, so you can keep browsing while it works. A save still in progress is not lost if the page changes. If a save step fails, Scout retries it automatically. If a step still fails after several attempts, the profile may stay incomplete. Open the profile page again to start a new save.
If LinkedIn signs you out or blocks the request, Scout stops retrying straight away. Log back in to LinkedIn and reload the profile.
What you should see
- The Scout icon in your toolbar and a Scout button or drawer on supported pages.
- The candidate in your Scout database, with the same data in the web app.
- Projects, notes and sequences you add in the drawer are visible in the web app.
Common problems
- The extension does not show on LinkedIn or Seek. The extension may be disabled or lacks site permission. Click the puzzle icon, make sure Scout is enabled and pinned, right-click the Scout icon, choose Can read and change site data and set it to On all sites or On current site. Clear your cache and refresh the page.
- Login loop or credentials error. Open app.getscout.ai and confirm you are logged in. Click the Scout extension icon, click Log Out, reload the tab and log in again with a fresh code.
- Profile Not Found. The page may not be a profile Scout can read. Reload the page and open a supported profile URL.
- Integration Not Connected. Connect Vincere or JobAdder in Settings > Integrations.
